SRK Consulting Kazakhstan environmental consultants Dr. Ivan Maximov, Zarina Ualiyeva and Zhanar Faizuldayeva participated in the Good International Industry Practice (GIIP) workshop organized by SRK South Africa and SRK Peru in Lima from 15-16 September 2014.

SRK’s environmental consultants aspire to deliver work compliant with Good International Industry Practice (GIIP) and in this regard there are a number of standards which guide us. Pre-eminent amongst these, especially for responsible Lenders such as Equator Principles Financial Institutions, are the Equator Principles and the International Finance Corporation Performance Standards.

The overall objective was to track trends in GIIP, consider which services we are equipped to provide now, those we may want to provide in the future and to position ourselves accordingly.

Zarina Ualiyeva and Zhanar Faizuldayeva presented a case study comparing Kazakhstan legislative requirements pertaining to mine closure with GIIP, including IFC Environmental, Health and Safety Guidelines for Mining, and Planning for Integrated Mine Closure, International Council for Metals and Mining.

Following the workshop, Dr. Ivan Maximov, Principal Environmental Engineer with SRK Kazakhstan, commented: “This workshop was extremely useful in ensuring our ability to provide advice and services to our clients that are compliant with the most current international standards. It was a good platform to share our knowledge and experience to develop competencies within the entire SRK environmental science group”.
