This paper presents a summary of the current construction procedures for urban excavations in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The geotechnical conditions are briefly described, and a few case histories are reported. These case histories include large excavations supported with posttensioned anchors, excavations supported with piles, and diaphragm walls. Finally, the current engineering procedures are discussed and some recommendations for the advancement of the engineering of excavations is proposed.
